Ace Hotel Kyoto will host “Another Hometown”, a special spin-off exhibition by painter Jimmy Onishi, from November 1, 2025 (Sat) to January 31, 2026 (Sat) at the Lobby Gallery.
This exhibition serves as a spin-off presentation preceding the upcoming 2026 winter exhibition “Hometown.” It focuses on the “places” that artist Jimmy Onishi encountered through his creative activities around the world, showcasing works inspired by those locations.
Jimmy began painting in 1992 and has created works in Spain, Malta, Rome, Antarctica, Paris, Okinawa, Toyama, Osaka, Nagasaki, and more. A selection of 12 iconic pieces will be on view, showcasing his colorful journey over 33 years.
During the exhibition, KŌSA on the 3rd floor will offer a special afternoon tea inspired by Jimmy’s vibrant colors and the flavors of the season — a playful experience that feels like stepping into his canvas.
Jimmy Onishi first rose to fame in Japan with his unique personality and spontaneous humor, becoming a household name through countless TV appearances and unforgettable one-liners. While beloved for his comedic charm, his artistic talent also drew attention when he debuted his paintings on a Yomiuri TV program, receiving high praise from prominent artists and experts.
In 1993, he held his first solo exhibition, marking the start of his journey as a painter. He later stepped away from entertainment to focus on art, living and creating in places like Spain and Malta. Known for his bold brushstrokes and vibrant use of color, Jimmy’s work has gained wide acclaim both in Japan and abroad.
More recently, his “POP OUT” exhibition (2022–2023) toured 10 cities across Japan, attracting a total of 120,000 visitors and cementing his presence as a celebrated contemporary artist.
