Play De Record has served the Toronto music community for over 25 years. A classic vinyl record store and one stop shop for Music lovers and DJs coming to the city. Play De Record is one of few vinyl shops in the city that can properly classify itself as a DJ store. The venerable record purveyor has long been a destination for the city’s medley of DJs—from the turntablists to the producers—and, in their heyday, even had international legends as heavy as Nas, Raekwon, and drum & bass trailblazer Goldie digging through their crates. Essentially the same space that once supplied all of Toronto’s radio DJs in the 90s, PDR still holds their collection of vinyl genres that range from rare Discogs to international records, and of course, their essential crates of vintage records sitting on the floor, which line the entire store. Royal Alexandra Theatre

260 King St W, Toronto ON, M5V 1J2 – This link opens in a new browser tab

The Royal Alexandra Theatre is a national historic landmark – the oldest continuously operating legitimate theatre in North America and the continent’s first truly “royal” theatre, granted official letters patent by Edward VII entitling it to the royal designation, along with his permission to name it after his consort, Alexandra. Built in 1907 by Cawthra Mulock (Toronto’s “boy millionaire”), and designed by John M Lyle, it is a masterpiece of beaux-arts architecture that also holds distinction as the city’s first steel-framed structure (allowing cantilevered balconies), one of the first “air-conditioned” buildings in North America, and the first theatre to be deemed legitimately “fireproof”. The proscenium-stage has seen almost 3400 productions since their opening and has been graced by such legendary performers as John Gielgud, Mary Pickford, the Marx Brothers, Edith Piaf, Paul Robeson… to name just a few.
