SUMMARY:Silly Girl
DESCRIPTION:Almendra Bertoni is pleased to present Silly Girl\, a solo exhibition questioning the roles femininity is asked to inhabit. \nBertoni examines the historical archetypes of the Virgin\, the Madonna\, the Temptress and the Muse\, looking to what these archetypes have come to embody in a contemporary context. \nWith an air of otherworldliness\, her figurative paintings combine multilayered wooden panels to create dreamlike scenes of contorted bodies and airy architectural spaces. \nBertoni’s practice continues to ask how feminine creativity in an art historical context is often categorized as frivolous\, decorative\, naive\, or merely playful and whether those qualities can be alchemized into power and freedom. \nSilly Girl embodies the wish to be taken seriously without having to perform seriousness.
