Parastoo Anoushahpour is an artist originally from Tehran now based in Toronto working predominantly with film, video and installation. She was an artist in residence at the Mohammad and Mahera Abu Ghazaleh Foundation (Jordan), Tabakalera International Center for Contemporary Art (Spain), Taipei Artist Village (Taiwan), and Banff Center for Arts & Creativity (Canada). Her recent solo and collaborative work has been shown at Mercer Union, Berlinale, MoMA, e-flux, The Flaherty Film Seminar, Punto de Vista Film Festival, Sharjah Film Platform, Viennale, NYFF, TIFF, Images Festival, IFF Rotterdam, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Experimenta (Bangalore), and Media City Film Festival. Since 2013 she has been working in collaboration with Ryan Ferko and Faraz Anoushahpour. Their shared practice explores the tension of multiple subjectivities as a strategy to address the power inherent in narrative structures.

During her residency at Ace Hotel, Parastoo developed the installation ultrablue  alongside the residency theme of (g)host which considers the idea of archives, spirit, care, and hospitality.

This exhibition is a part of our year-long partnership with Images Festival.

About our partner

Images Festival is a platform for the exhibition and discourse of independent film and media art. Created in 1987 as the only alternative film festival in Toronto at the time, Images has spent the last 36 years presenting media works that are challenging in their form and content. The festival showcases the intersection of emerging and established practices, and invites open critical dialogue in the film and media arts community around the political histories of moving image production, distribution, exhibition and representation.
